TechTalk: 2024 Commissioning of a Cost-Effective "Underground Battery" in Texas
Tuesday, May 14, 2024
11:55 AM – 12:20 PM CST
Location: Room 310, Level 3
New innovations are pushing the boundaries of what is possible with geo-technologies deep in the earth, enabling energy storage that can be paired with intermittent renewables such as wind or solar and/or cost-effective geothermal power around the clock. Geo-storage is akin to upside-down pumped hydro storage, without the need for a mountain, and can be installed just about everywhere (including Texas!). This talk will explore how new innovations can bring energy storage with short to long durations of 4-24+ hours and a round trip efficiency (RTE) of 70-75% and will describe a new commercially-viable approach to new generation geothermal called Geopressured Geothermal System (GGS) technology.
